On Saturday 19^th October 2019, Handforth Station was the venue for the unveiling of a newly-installed 1950s era Running In board – a large sign showing the name of the railway station. Such signs are intended to inform passengers of their location when aboard a train entering the station, possibly while still moving at speed.

This piece of railway history was bought at auction by the Connolly family, who have kindly agreed to loan it to the Friends of Handforth Station (FoHS) for display at its station of origin.

Everyone is invited to attend and hear what we’ve been doing for our station recently. We’ll also be discussing the progress of the Access For All project (aka providing lifts or ramps to the platforms), we’ll be discussing our submissions to Cheshire Best Kept Stations (CBKS) awards and the Association of Community Rail Partnerships (ACoRP) awards, and we’ll be updating you on local Community Rail Partnership (CRP) and Northern Rail Stakeholder meetings.

We are also always on the lookout for members to join the Steering Committee, and we currently have two vacancies. If you would like to consider a position on the Steering Committee, please let us know in advance.

The latest artworks to grace our Station were officially opened on Thursday, 30th May, in the presence of young people from the local “SK9” Youth Group, passengers, funders, Friends of Handforth Station members and other supporters.

Two new ornamental entrance arches now greet passengers as they arrive at the top of the steps to the two platforms. They were designed by artist Christine Wilcox-Baker, who worked closely with SK9 to incorporate their ideas into the metalwork sculptures…. Read more
